Streets Maintenance Worker

About the position

The Town of Front Royal is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker to join our Streets Department team. This position involves performing semi-skilled and manual maintenance duties essential for preserving and enhancing the safety, cleanliness, appearance, and overall appeal of the Town. The Maintenance Worker will be responsible for maintaining, cleaning, repairing, constructing, and installing various infrastructures, including asphalt, concrete, water systems, sanitary and storm sewers, traffic signage, signals, landscaping, trees, buildings, and other public facilities. The role primarily focuses on street and sidewalk work, which may require after-hours commitment, particularly during snow and ice removal operations. A Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement is preferred and must be obtained within six months of hire. The starting pay for this position is $16.29 per hour, which may vary based on qualifications and experience, with higher pay available for CDL holders. The Maintenance Worker will engage in a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks, including spreading asphalt, patching street surfaces, assisting with concrete work, and cleaning debris from streets and sidewalks. The role also involves assisting other crews as needed and being available for after-hours work during emergencies. Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of unskilled and semiskilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets, utilities, and related facilities.
• Spread asphalt and patch street surfaces; assist with concrete work.
• Assist with snow and ice removal.
• Assist other crews when needed.
• Clean up debris from streets and sidewalks.
• Be available after hours for emergency situations.
• Perform related tasks as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Some experience in heavy manual work
• Valid driver’s license required
• CDL Class B with air brakes endorsement required at time of hire or within six months of employment
• Flagging Certification required within six months of employment
• Pavement Marking Certification required within six months of employment
• Work Zone Certification required within six months of employment
• First Aid & CPR certification required within six months of employment
• General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
• General knowledge of hazards associated with street maintenance work
• Safety mindset and safe driving practices
• Safe operation of basic hand tools used for the job
• Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
• Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
• Organizational skills
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
• Ability to follow oral instructions as given by the supervisor or crew leader
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
